Welcome to West Yorkshire Astronomical Society

14th February 2012

Tonight our visiting speaker is Dr. Colin Steele who will present his talk entitled: 'Astronomy in Flatland - the 2-Dimensional Universe'. Attending talks by our visiting speakers is just one of the ways that you can learn about the universe and you will not be disappointed with this one. The talk will be held in the small ballroom in the Grange Centre next to the observatory and will start at 7.30pm. There is a charge of £4 for visitors but children are free. Everyone is welcome and the talk will be aimed at beginners to astronomy.

Comet Gerradd

Here's a fantastic picture of comet (C/2009 P1 Gerradd) close to M92. Tim says the comet has trailed which shows how fast its travelling! For the technically minded Tim used 27mins of exposure time in the image, spread over the course of about an hour with William Optic Zenithstar 80 APO and Canon EOS550D, stacked with DeepSkyStacker and tweaked with Photoshop.
